Moving Between Desktop and Cloud

Move your books either way, with every trial balance checked before anything changes

Requirements: BizBooks Pro desktop 2.5.0 or later, an early-access cloud invitation, and the installation's primary administrator signed in. The move screens are under System Admin → Backup & Restore.

From your computer to the cloud

  1. Open System Admin → Backup & Restore and choose Move my books to the cloud. Read the summary of what will happen.
  2. Type the address you want (for example riverstone for riverstone.cloud.bizbooks.pro). BizBooks tells you at once whether it is available.
  3. Click Email me a confirmation code. A six-digit code goes to the email address on your licence; enter it within 15 minutes.
  4. BizBooks makes this computer read-only for the duration, takes a complete snapshot of your books and uploads it, encrypted. A progress bar shows how far it has got; you can leave the screen open and carry on with something else.
  5. Review the comparison. For every company you see the debits, credits and entry count on this computer next to the same figures from a test restore in the cloud. Nothing has moved yet.
  6. If every company shows a match, click Move now. When it finishes you will see your new address. Sign in there with your usual username and password.
After a successful move this computer stays read-only, so the two copies can never drift apart. Your licence now runs in the cloud.

If anything goes wrong — or you cancel before clicking Move now — your books on this computer are left exactly as they were, editable again, and your licence stays here. The screen explains what happened.

From the cloud back to your computer

  1. In your cloud books, open System Admin → Backup & Restore and choose Move my books to my computer.
  2. Tick the box confirming that the cloud copy will become read-only, and confirm.
  3. A password for the backup file is shown once, on screen. Copy it somewhere safe; it is not emailed.
  4. A single-use download link, valid for 24 hours, arrives by email. Download the file.
  5. On your computer, in BizBooks Pro desktop, open Backup & Restore → Full installation, upload the file, enter the password and restore. Your licence moves back to the computer.
